George was called "Uncle Wash" by his relatives. He was blind in one eye from falling on a corn stubble as a child. If you had a sick horse or cow, George was the man to call. He was also an expert at butchering. He moved his wife and younger children from North Carolina to Ohio in 1920 to buy a farm. He was followed by his sister and brother-in-law and others who migrated from North Carolina to Ohio.

Note; Although his second wife Emily Greene's name is on the grave marker for George & Mary Greene, she was not buried there. She returned to North Carolina after George died and no one in Ohio heard from her again. She was buried in the Adams Cemetery in Watauga County, NC. Her death certificate was found which proves where she was buried, but no head stone for Emily can be found.
