Lawrence was the son of James Roland and Sophia Gertrude Annis, of Nictaux Falls, Nova Scotia.
He emlisted, and served as a private in the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada.
He was killed in action on October 13, 1944 during the Battle of the Scheldt. October 13th, known as Black Friday by the Black Watch - the regiment put in an assault near Hoogerheide during the Battle of the Scheldt in which all four company commanders were killed, and one company of 90 men was reduced to just four survivors.
Lawrence is buried at the Canadian War Cemetery at Bergen-op-Zoom, Netherlands.
