Bernice E. Keiser, 100, of Mackinaw City, passed away early Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at the Long Term Care Facility of Mackinac Straits Hospital. Bernice was born in Bliss Township on Aug. 29, 1908, the daughter of Berton and Carrie (Cosens) Patterson.
She married Maynard L. Keiser Dec. 26, 1929, and he preceded her in death in 1978.
Bernice graduated from Pellston High School in 1926 and attended Mount Pleasant Normal College and received her teaching certificate. She taught school for a year prior to her marriage to Maynard and then devoted the rest of her life to caring for and loving her children and grandchildren as they grew up.
She enjoyed badminton and volleyball and knitting, crochet and crewel work. Best of all she enjoyed trips, traveling to New York, Hawaii, Yellow stone Park, California, Arizona and Texas. Bernice also enjoyed many warm winters in Florida.
She is survived by her children, Ethelwyn Alexander of Mackinaw City, Maynard "Bud" (Nancy) Keiser of Bliss, Richard (Wanda) Keiser and Carmon Yoder of Mackinaw City, Brenda (Jon) Hall of Saginaw and Gary (Jean) Keiser of Carp Lake. She also leaves 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Thelma and Margery, brothers, Wendell, Lloyd, Robert, and infant brother, Eldridge,
also a granddaughter, Debra Lee Keiser, sons-in-law, Raymond "Pete" Alexander and Eddie Yoder.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is planned for spring at Lakeview Cemetery in Mackinaw City. Date and time was announced later.
