Melvin L. Gallagher, age 90, of 2815 44th St., Two Rivers, died Friday evening, May 5, 2000, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

A Memorial service will be held at 2p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Kim Henning, cremation will have taken place.
He was born January 17, 1910, in Wahpeton, N.D., son of the late Elmer and Elma Mae Poole Gallagher. He attended high school in Waseca, Minn., and furthered his education at Carleton College, in Northfield, Minn. He then attended the Union Theological Seminary, in New York City, where he earned a degree in Sacred Music. Mel then became Director of Music at Northfield Schools in Northfield, Mass. For a number of years, before becoming Minister of Music in Kansas City and Los Angeles. On June 4, 1956, he married Georgi Goodspeed, in Los Angeles. The couple lived in Hawaii for 26 years, where Mel was the Minister of Music of 13 United Church of Christ Churches. He was active in scouting attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Melvin taught the love of music and church through his adult and childrens choirs. He retired to Two Rivers, to continue to give private piano lessons in his treasured students.

He is survived by his wife, Georgi; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Brent Gallagher, Hilo, Hawaii, David and Sarah Gallagher, Two Rivers; one daughter and son-in-law, Stella and Keoki Cordes, Oakland, Calif. Six grandchildren, Brian Gallagher, Dawn Aydelott, Calvin and Ross Cordes, and Bridget and Brian Gallagher; three great grandchildren, Nicole Aydelott, Ethan and Anna Cordes. He is further survived by one brother, Merle Gallagher, Billings, Mont.; and two brothers-in-law, M. Jedson Goodspeed, Torrance, Calif., and David Goodspeed, Smithdale, Miss. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday evening and at the church on Wednesday after 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Congregational Church.
