The Family Legend of Jasper Christian Nelson

Jasper Christian Nelson was a tall sailor with red hair and blue eyes, whose family came from Norway. He had very good night vision--all this according to family tradition.

A record found for "Jesper Christian Nielsen", born 8 Okt 1845; baptism 9 Nov 1845, Hune sogn (parish), Hjorring, Denmark (a few miles south of Ingstrup, Hjorring, Denmark--see 1st photo). The record states that his father was Niels Christian Laursen and his mother was Maren Sorensdatter. FHL Film Number: 49116. [The location and year of his birth work for this man being the husband of Anna Kristine Thomas datter].

"Jasper Christian Nelson" married Anna Kristine Thomasdatter on 25 April 1873, in Instrup, Hjorring, Denmark. (source: Gallardo family). To this union, two daughters were born: Martena (1 Nov 1873, Lykken) and Marie (22 Jan 1877, Grandhoj, Ingstrup). Jasper became stepfather to Anna Kristina's two sons Erik Pederson, and Chris Severin Frostrup Jensen.

Jasper was with the family only for a few years. He went sailing and the ship never returned to port. No one aboard was heard from again, the conclusion of the local residents was that the ship was lost/destroyed at sea and all aboard were drowned.

Another possibility:

(This one is not as likely as it does not work as Marie's father. However, this man was also a sailor, but the bodies of the sailors were found and buried. The location is possible). Christian Nielsen, Spouse: Anna Christina Thomson, born 4 Feb 1848 in Tarup, Fyen, Denmark. Died 13 March 1875, buried 19 March 1875 At Kliplev, Abenra, Denmark. FHL Film Number: 42792, Reference ID: 672

Jasper's grandson Louie Jasper Hansen had the genetic trait of night vision in which he could see very well at night, therefore preferring to do his work at night. This trait was said to have strength among the old sailors of Norway.
