Doris Henschel, age 85, of W3940 State 32, Elkhart Lake (Ada), died Monday, March 14, 2011, after a short illness at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.

She was the former Doris Kretsch, born July 28, 1925 in the Town of Meeme, daughter of the late Armin and Lydia (Schneider) Kretsch.

Doris attended Schwartzwald Grade School and was a 1943 graduate of Kiel High School. She also attended the Business Institute of Milwaukee.

On June 23, 1945, Doris married LeRoy Semph at Bethel United Church of Christ in Ada. LeRoy preceded her in death on October 23, 1984.

On December 14, 1985, she married Harold Henschel at St. John's United Church of Christ in Schwartzwald.

Doris and her first husband, LeRoy, ran a general store in Ada. She also worked for a time at Heritage Insurance (Acuity) and from 1960 until her retirement in 1990, she worked at the Howards Grove School District Office as a secretary.

In retirement she kept busy helping at her stepson's floral shop, Rick's House of Flowers in Sheboygan Falls.

She was a former member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Schwartzwald, and currently was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the ladies aid, serving as secretary and a member of the Sunshine Team.

Doris enjoyed traveling in her younger years to 50 states and Canada, playing cards with family and friends, listening to music, cooking and baking. She was also a member of the canasta club for over 50 years.

One of the highlights of her life was writing about the history of Ada. The "Remembrances of Ada" was published in July of 2004.

Survivors include her husband, Harold F. of Ada; four step-children, Larry (Sandy) Henschel of rural Kiel, Randy (Debbie) Henschel of rural Cleveland, Rick Henschel of Howards Grove and Lonna (Pete) Gall of Francis Creek; and step-grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Cory (fiancée Rebekah Henning), Kayla, and Kevin Henschel and Brianna and Miranda Gall. She is further survived by one brother, James Kretsch of California; sister/cousins, Jane (Duane) Enders of Plymouth and Karen (Allen) Hellmer of Plymouth; sister-in law, Florence Kretsch of Southport, CT; other sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Semph and two infant sisters, Joyce and Judith.

Funeral services for Doris were held on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Bethel United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake, with the Rev. Jim Liddle officiating. Burial took place in Schwartzwald Cemetery.
