Born to Italian immigrants, Joe attended West Virginia University and was in law school when World War II started. He received a commission in the Infantry and was severely wounded at Monte Cassino. Joe was discharged in 1944 and attended USC Law School. Upon passing the bar, Joe Biafora practiced in Reseda and developed real estate. His success in the San Fernando Valley enabled him to support his church, scholarships at WVU, local civic organizations, and the Wounded Veterans of Foreign Wars. Joe was married to Stefi Poluck, with whom he raised six children.
