Richard C. Gleichner, age 79 of 1914-24th St., Two Rivers, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2004 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, Holy Redeemer site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O’Brien with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Richard was born June 9, 1924 in Manitowoc, son of the late Carl E. and Catherine (Konieczka) Gleichner. He attended Washington High School, graduating with the class of 1942. Richard served in the U.S. Navy for two and a half years during World War II. On Sept. 20, 1947 he married Betty Philipps at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He was a design engineer for aluminum cookware and was employed at Kaufman Manufacturing and Mirro Foley where he retired from in 1986. Richard was a 3rd Degree member of the nights of Columbus Mother of Hope Council 1957, Two Rivers, and the Rev. Francis Simono Assembly 1220 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Men of St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, was a Mass server and a lay distributor. Dick enjoyed and participated in golf, bowling and dart ball. Dick took special interest in gardening, woodworking and assisting friends and family with home improvement projects. After his retirement, Dick spent 20 years managing the Two Rivers Knights of Columbus Club.

Survivors include his wife: Betty Gleichner, Two Rivers; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Jane Daffner, Two Rivers; Nancy and Tom Tomaszewski, Two Rivers; Sharon and Jim Rath, Sherwood; one son: Robert Gleichner, Two Rivers and his fiancee Collette Candelaria; 10 grandchildren: Larry Daffner and his special friend, Paula, Plano, Texas; Deanne (Ryan) Stokes, Two Rivers; Jeff Daffner, Two Rivers; Kathryn, Jessica and Samantha Tomaszewski, Two Rivers; Gus, Max, Jake and Beau Rath, Sherwood; one great-grandaughter: Allyson Stokes; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Ruth
Malley, Two Rivers; MaryAnn (Jim) Schmitt, Two Rivers; Dorothy (Jim) Boutin, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Lorin and Mary Philipps Wausaukee; Mary Ann Philipps, Two Rivers. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law: Allen Daffner; two brothers-in-law: Gilbert Philipps and Al Malley; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: John and Lucy Philipps.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. led by Father Bill.

Visitation will continue on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. when the funeral cortege will leave for church.

The family extends a special thank you to Father Bill and to the doctors and staff at the Aurora Medical Center for their excellent care and generosity.

The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers, is assisting the Gleichner family with funeral arrangements.
