Albert was the son of Ebenezer S Reed, a native of Vermont, and his wife Mable Snyder Reed. Albert's family arrived in Clarendon sometime in the 1830's- they appear there in the 1840 census and his dad Ebenezer was paid to help move and paint the school house on Glidden and Cowles roads in 1839. In 1838 Ebenezer is listed as a first Sergeant in the local militia and he was a school commissioner in 1834.

Albert enlisted in the 8th New York Heavy Artillery at Clarendon, NY on August 14 1862 and died in Baltimore less than a year later. The 8th Artillery guarded the Armory at Baltimore. "Enlisted in Company K, New York 8th Heavy Artillery Regiment on 14 Aug 1862.Mustered out (died) on 11 Aug 1863 at Fort McHenry, Baltimore, MD." Albert died of disease- "fever".
