Joan Indovino died on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She was 76 years old. Mrs. Indovino was a lifelong resident of Brooklyn before moving to Somerset 5 years ago. She was a parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Mrs. Indovino was the Founder and Administrator of the Montessori School of Mill Basin in Brooklyn. She retired in 2001. Mrs. Indovino was the Past President of Poly Prep Country Day School Parents Association in Brooklyn. She was also a member of the American Montessori Society.
She was predeceased by her son, Peter Indovino in 1997. Mrs. Indovino is survived by her husband of 52 years, Louis Indovino of Somerset. She is also survived by her daughter, Lisa Indovino and her husband Paul Ottens of Upper Montclair; her son, Jay Indovino and his wife Jill of St. Louis; her sisters, Barbara Royal of Danville, VA, and Delores Gainesberg of Brooklyn; and her grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Elias, Nicole, Lauren and Peter.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday at 10:30AM at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Interment will take place on Monday at St. Charles/Resurrection Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island. Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 6-9PM on Friday at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. Contributions in her name may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 633 3rd Avenue, NY, NY 10016, Attn: Clare Pugsley.
