Husband of Mary Freeman Mathews. Son of Byron Henley Mathews sr. and Maude Elizabeth Johnson (buried at Westview). Maude Johnson was the daughter of Nicholas Johnson and Cordelia Brooks (buried at Westview). Judge Mathews was a man of many interests and pursuits. He wrote the historically detailed book about the Military operations around Newnan and Coweta County called "The McCook - Stoneman Raid" which detailed the events and troop movements that preceded the Brown's Mill Battle (near Newnan, Coweta, GA.) and Nash Farm Battle (Lovejoy, Clayton County, GA.). He was a 1939 University of Georgia Graduate, A Lawyer, a U. S. Army Officer during WW2, An FBI Agent, Author and a Judge in Coweta County, GA., a Mason and a Good Man, as described by my Uncle who was good friends with him. Byron never knew that he and my Uncle were related through Byron's Mother's family.
