Mrs. Mary Estelle Cantrell Alexander, age 78, of Rome, passed away on Sunday evening, July 3, 2011, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Alexander was born in Floyd County, Georgia on September 15, 1932, daughter of the late Richard Cantrell and the late Josephine Wilkins Cantrell. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Blue Pond Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Houston Alexander, by a step-son, Ronnie Alexander, and by a grandson, Lamar Alexander.
Survivors include a son, Richard Alexander, Silver Creek; a step-son, Govan Alexander and his wife, Carol, Silver Creek; 2 sisters, Mrs. Zelma Clements, Lindale, and Mrs. Maggie Collum, Rome; a brother, Clyde Cantrell, Panama City Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren, Channing Alexander, Kristi Pope, Jamey Alexander, Shane Alexander, and Cindy Alexander; several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 1pm at the graveside in Floyd Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jerry Cowart will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 until 8pm. At other hours they will be at each of their respective residences.
Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at the graveside on Wednesday at 12:45pm and include: Active: Ken Quick, Wayne Quick, Dewayne Collum, Jimmy Beard, Scott Edwards, and Govan Alexander. Honorary: Jason Duvall, Mike Darnell, and the Elders of Blue Pond Baptist Church.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
