Fire In Kitchen Fatal To Woman – Mrs. A. F. Sailor Burned While Ironing
Fatal burns were suffered yesterday by Mrs. Alma Sailor, 54, wife of Allen F. Sailor, bureau of street cleaning employe, from flames developing in her kitchen at 3738 Southeast Milwaukie street.
Mrs. Sailor was rushed to Good Samaritan hospital by ambulance after receiving aid from the George L. Baker first-aid car crew, under command of Captain Donald Sloan. She died at the hospital a few hours later.
Her hair was burned from her head and clothing shredded on her body, the hospital reported. The flames started, according to Fire Investigator Brooks, while Mrs. Sailor was ironing near a wood cookstove.
Either a cleaning fluid or the garment on which she was working first ignited, according to Brooks, and in attempting to quell the flames Mrs. Sailor's clothing ignited.
The woman, carrying the ironing board, rushed into a bedroom and there bed clothing, curtains and a dresser soon were in flames. Damage to the property was set at $100.
