Born Feb. 2, 1930 in Jenkintown, Pa., he was raised in Abington, Pa. and lived his past 48 years in Brick. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard between 1950 and 1953. Mr. Leidy taught history and english at Asbury Park High School and was active in the N.J.E.A. until his retirement in 1985.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, adoring his Jack Russell Terriers, Jack, Brutus, and Abby; as well as feeding wild life. Kind and generous to family, friends, and strangers alike, he will be deeply missed.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Madeleine; seven children, Sharon Leidy of Egg Harbor, Madeleine Santora and Marie Tweedie, both of Brick, Russell Leidy and Stephen Leidy, both of Toms River, and Kitty Leidy and Francie Leidy, both of California; seven grandchildren, Katie Santora, Stephen Leidy, Deanna Leidy, Madeleine Leidy, Danny Leidy, Raymond DeMuro, and Tyler Tweedie; a great-grandchild, Neveah; his beloved sister, Jeanne Mangold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, a service, followed by inurnment will take place at the chapel of the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Provinceline Road, Arneytown. There will be no calling hours and those attending the service may meet directly at the cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations made in his memory to the Jersey Shore Animal Center, 185 Brick Blvd., Brick, NJ 08723, would be appreciated.
