Born in Springfield, IL, he was the son of the late Otto Drengwitz and Ester Bahlow Drengwitz. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Drengwitz. He was a US Navy WWII veteran and retired from CR Industries. George was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight for four years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Catherine "Kitty" Marren Drengwitz; one sister, Suzie Cornwell of Athens, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Father Tien H. Duong will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Springfield, IL.
