Gary Julian Thomas, 71, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2014 at Portneuf Medical Center, surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

He was born on September 16, 1942 as the middle child to Julian J. and Rebecca Durgin Thomas. After graduating from Pocatello High School he joined the Army. He served in Panama for three years until 1967 when he was honorable discharged.

Gary had a love for music, electronics, cars, traveling and spending time in Island Park. He took many car trips with his mother, nieces and nephew to Disneyland, Grand Canyon and every inch of Yellowstone National Park.

In the 70's, he opened his own electronics business, Idaho Sound. He later worked for Hanson's Distributing and retired from Radio Shack a few years ago.

While he never married, he had many great friends over the years.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Don Thomas.

He is survived by: his sister, Norma (Morris) Bunce; his nephew, Thomas (LuAnn) Bunce; his nieces, Michelle (Gibb) Stotts and Tricia Jacks; four great-nieces; two great-nephews and his best friend Stephanie Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the LDS Hawthorne and Quinn Chapel, located at 4775 Hawthorne Road, Pocatello, Id. A viewing will be held from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd., Chubbuck, Id., and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Pocatello Veteran's Honor Guard.
