Dorothy was just short of her 8th birthday when she died. She arose earlier than the other members of her family and used kerosene to build a fire. She spilled some on her clothing which ignited and she ran outdoors. Her father tore the burning clothing off and she was taken to the hospital for treatment but died from the effects of the burns.
