U.S. Congressman. He attended the Cassville Academy and served in Company K, 149th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Union Army, during the Civil War. After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in August 1865 and practiced law in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. In 1892, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Alexander K. Craig and reelected to the Fifty-third Congress, serving until 1895. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until in 1921, moved California and lived in retirement until death.
