Death Occurs at Home of Daughter, Mrs. Ralph Dutton
FUNERAL THURSDAY
Leaves Two Sons and Three Daughters, Brother and Three Sisters.
Mrs. Melissa Ford. Widow of an early day merchant in Manchester, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Sutton, this (Tuesday) morning, Dec 13, 1938, following a brief illness of heart trouble.
Funeral services will be held at the Brown mortuary Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of Rev. D. E. Freeman, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial will be made in Oakland cemetery.
Melissa E. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Smith, was born in London, Ontario, Canada, April 10, 1864. At the age of 18 she was married to George Irving at Alvinston, Ontario, Canada, and following his death came to Manchester in 1910. She married W. W. Ford, an early day merchant here, who passed away here Nov. 2, 1927.
Survivors are two sons, Wm. Irving, Manchester, and Roy Irving, Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Dutton, Manchester, and Mrs. Norman B. Laing, Detroit, Mich. one brother, George Smith, Hartford, Ill., three sisters; Mrs. J. T. Allen, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. D. W. Ellis, Dorchester, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. H. O. Bushnell of Hopkinton, and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Ford had been a devout member of the Presbyterian church here and was faithful in her attendance upon the services until ill health prevented. She was a devoted wife and mother, and will be missed in the family circle. The children, who mourn her passing, have the profound sympathy of many friends.
