MSGR. FRAWLEY IS DEAD; MASS SET TUESDAY
Founder of Church in Oak Park
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Lawrence W. Frawley, 71, founder and pastor of St. Giles Catholic church, 1045 N. Columbian av., Oak Park, died yesterday in Columbus hospital.
Msgr. Frawley had founded St. Giles in 1927. Thru his guidance the parish grew to a membership of 2,500 families and now includes three elementary school buildings, a convent, rectory, and church. The last school building was completed a year ago.
Ordained in 1916
He was a member of the first class to be graduated from Cathedral college in Chicago in 1910. He was ordained in Holy Name Cathedral in 1916.
Msgr. Frawley was an army chaplain in World War I, serving in Texas. Later he was assistant pastor at St. Thomas the Apostle and St. Malachy's churches in Chicago, and Ascension church in Oak Park, before he established St. Giles.
A Domestic Prelate
He was named a Domestic Prelate in 1953 by the late Cardinal Samuel Stritch.
His brother was the late Rt. Rev. Msgr. Daniel J. Frawley, former pastor of St. Jerome's church.
Mass will be said at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday in St. Giles. Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemetery.
