Donna was born August 17, 1932 in Lena, WI, a daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Casper) Alsteen. She attended the Sunnybrook Country School in Oconto County and Lena High School, graduating with the class of 1950. On June 4, 1955, she married Howard C. Goessl at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. The couple was blessed with 56 years of marriage. After their marriage, Donna worked for several years at Yindra Bakery in Manitowoc, and from 1972 until the present time, along with her husband, Howard, owned & operated Cool City Cleaners in Two Rivers. Donna was a charter member of the Two Rivers Lioness Club, of which she served as a past officer including past president; she was a former member of the Lady Elks; and a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish - currently St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, and the Ladies of St. Peter the Fisherman. She also volunteered for the religious education program of Holy Redeemer, teaching the second graders for many years. Donna loved to cook and bake; she was an avid Packer fan; she enjoyed her flower garden & reading; and cherished the time with her grandkids, family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Goessl; one daughter & son-in-law, Joan Goessl - Holm and her husband, Mark of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sons & daughters-in-law, Bill and Diane Goessl of Morgan City, Louisiana, Jim and Karnie Goessl, Two Rivers, Alan and Mary Goessl, Appleton; ten grandchildren, Allison, Mary Kate, and Lucas Holm; Michelle (Kevin) Shamburger; Jason, Jeffrey, Bradley, Erik, Garrett, and Bennett Goessl; three sisters, Ruth Trudell, Oconto Falls, JoAnn O'Neil, Appleton, and Beverly Conant, Marinette; three brothers, Clayton Alsteen, Lena, Armond Alsteen, Fox Lake, and Russell Alsteen of Kelly Lake. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Marian Farr, Tucson, AZ, Joan Goessl, Two Rivers, and Barb Goessl, California; two step sisters, Renetta Bennedum, Kelly Lake and Shirley Lockstein, Oconto and two step brothers, Donald and Rick Koeback of Oconto Falls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Dave Trudell, Robert O'Neil, and Dale Conant; one sister-in-law, Joan Alsteen; two step brothers, Herman and Joseph Koeback Jr.; and Sylvester.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3218 Tannery Rd. Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Reynebeau, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Friends may call at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Saturday morning, July 2, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of mass at 10:30 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.
