Funeral services for Rubye Alfson of Morris will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Minister Minette Stalheim Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Petri Cemetery in Cyrus. Rubye Eleanor Hanse, daughter of Melvin and Ella (Tinseth) Hanse, was born September 21, 1923 in Morris, Minnesota. Rubye grew up in Cyrus, where she was confirmed in 1937 at St. Petri Lutheran Church. She graduated from Cyrus High School in 1941. Following her schooling, she did community work in the Morris and Cyrus area. On October 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to Gordon Alfson. The couple farmed near Cyrus for the next ten years, before moving to Morris for Gordon's job at the lumberyard. In 1970, they moved to Glenwood, where Rubye did bookkeeping for the lumberyard. Rubye and Gordon retired and moved back to Cyrus to help out on the family farm. In 2010, they moved to Skyview Plaza, where they have continued to live until the time of Rubye's death. Rubye was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and served on the ladies serving group. Rubye enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, camping, ice fishing, playing yatzee, putting puzzles together and decorating her house. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Rubye died on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 90 years. She is survived by her husband: Gordon Alfson of Morris; one daughter: Connie (Dennis) Solvie of Hancock; one son: Marlyn (Anna) Alfson of Cyrus; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Thora Tollefson of Morris and Marguaret Aslagson of Starbuck. She was preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters; one brother and three sisters. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements. -
