Chester Raymond Leggans, 31, a former Murphysboro resident, was shot to death during an argument in Mount City, Missouri.
He had worked as a carpenter in the Mound City area for several years.
Leggans was born February 2, 1945 at Harvey, Illinois to Fred Lee and Geneva Lyerla Leggans. Survivors included his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Reynolds of Murphysboro; daughter, Juanita Leggans; sons, Jimmie and Steven Leggans, all of St. Joseph; sisters, Ida Saylor of Peoria; Katherine Persutti, Mary McDowell, Shirley Hodge of Liverpool, IL and June Bishop of Summon, IL; and brothers, Ernest Leggans of Peoria, Robert, Frank and Bruce Leggans, all of Murphysboro, and Gerald Leggans of Oty, TX.
Denny and Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro was in charge of arrangements.
