Billy "Bill" Loyd Ribble was born to H. L. Ribble, Jr and Jimmie Dillinder Ribble on September 17, 1926 in Young County, Texas. He was their first child. On September 7, 1941, his only sibling, a sister, Modene, was born. They had such a difference in age they grew up as only children. He was born and lived in what was then known as the Henry Chapel Community close to what was Finis.
He attended the Graham schools and went to Graham High School. He broke and rode his own steer, Blackie, as the high school mascot. He enjoyed playing football on the Graham Steers team. In 1944 during WWII, he joined the Marine Corps. He did his basic training at Camp LeJuene In North Carolina. He spent a few months in California, then was shipped to Hawaii.
On May 22, 1945, he married his high school sweetheart, Jackie Phinney and they made their home in Graham, Texas. They had 4 children: Wayne Ribble, Cheri Ribble, Dana Ribble, and Penny Ribble, all born in Young County, Texas.
Bill worked oilfield until the late 1960s were he had an opportunity to work at Ft. Wolters in nearby Mineral Wells, Texas as a helicopter mechanic. When Ft. Wolters was closed down they moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where he was a helicopter mechanic for Petroleum Helicopters.
During this time he became a grandfather to two boys, Ryan Vincent and Jeremy Phillips and one girl, Bree Williams. He and Jackie enjoyed traveling and seeing the states. He retired in 1987 and they moved back to Graham, Young County, Texas.
In 1993, Bill was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In 1994, he went to Houston, Texas, for treatment at M.D. Anderson Hospital. He was in Houston for 18 months. He passed away there on April 7. 1995. His funeral was April 9, 1995 and he was buried in Pioneer Cemetery.
