In 1942, Budd graduated from Fordham University in New York City, and then joined the United States Army Air Corps, serving as a major during World War II. During the war years, he met and married Vivian Grace Maxwell, of New Orleans, Louisiana. After the war, Budd attended Harvard Business School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and graduated with an MBA as a Baker Scholar in 1949. Later, the couple moved to New Orleans, and in 1956, the family moved to Houston, where Mr. Clark pursued a career in the oil business. He first worked at Christie, Mitchell & Mitchell, a Texas oil wildcat exploration company which later became Mitchell Energy & Development Company. Mr. Clark served as Chief Financial Officer of Mitchell Energy for many years, and was also Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. He finally retired in 2002, when the company was sold. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, James, Joseph and Margaret. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Vivian; his daughters, Janet Frances Clark and Virginia Ann Clark; his daughter Barbara Adele Clark and husband Edgar Bering and grandchildren Janet and Edgar Bering; his son Bernard Francis Clark, Jr. (Buddy) and wife Jena W. Clark and grandchildren Bernard Francis(Key), Kristin Nicole and Emma Louise Clark, all of Houston, Texas; his daughter Vivian Elizabeth Clark and husband Bryan Gilliam and granddaughters Stephanie and Grace Claire Gilliam of North Carolina; and his sister-in-law, Virginia Elizabeth Maxwell of New Orleans, Louisiana. Mr. Clark enjoyed foreign travel, and loved music, and was a lifelong listener and supporter of radio station KUHF. Although born in New York, he came to love his adopted home in Houston. He enjoyed many pleasant visits to Galveston, watching beautiful sunsets, and searching the sky for falling stars at night.
