Captain Abbot was one of two Canadian aircrew members who lost their lives in the crash of their McDonnell CF-101B ‘Voodoo’ (#101055) aircraft while attempting a landing on runway 25 at the Ottawa International Airport in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. With RCAF 416 Squadron, the airmen were stationed at CFB Chatham in New Brunswick. Captain Aldert OOSTENBRUG also perished in this aircraft accident.
