Richard C. Banks Sr., 94, of Belfast, passed away on April 3, at Togus VA in Chelsea. He was born on October 6, 1919 in Searsmont, the son of Charles and Hannah (Bagley) Banks.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. Richard was a long-time mechanic working at Crosby Dodge, C.A. Paul and Lothrop's. Later in his life, he worked in carpentry and was known as a skilled wood worker. He enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter months as well as fishing and camping. After his wife passed in 2011, Richard found companionship in going out to lunch with his friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Evelyn, his granddaughter Anne Downer, and two brothers, Wilfred and Robert Banks.

Richard is survived by his loving children, Jeanne Downer and husband Clayton of Belfast, Richard Banks Jr. of Morrill, and Ronald Banks and wife Sharon of Belfast; his sisters, Marie Weymouth and Merle Potter both of Belfast; his grandchildren, Duane Downer, Kimberly Fitzjurls and Ronald Banks Jr.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 7, at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. Interment will be held at Grove Cemetery in the spring. (Republican Journal 4/3/2014)
