Orell Battles, 93, charter member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, died Thursday at her home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. L.W. Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be at Oddfellows Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home of Abilene.

Mrs. Battles was born in and attended school in Calvert. She was the widow of Jink Battles, whom she married on Nov. 12, 1922 in Calvert. She moved to Taylor County 56 years ago and worked as a domestic worker until her retirement. She served as a Sunday school teacher, secretary, president and teacher of Mission and Benevolence treasurer at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, J.D. Battles of Oxnard, Calif. and Willie C. Battles of Los Angeles, Calif.; three daughters, Paralee Norman and Rosie Lee Stevenson, both of Abilene, and Addie Nowlin of Houston, 23 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; 44 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the church.
