Douglas L. Murkley, 73, of 1902 N. Harrison St., Appleton, and a former Manitowoc resident died Wednesday night following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, with the Rev. Edward E. Dahl officiating. Burial will be n Oakwood Memorial Cemetery, Berlin.

Mr. Murkley was born Dec. 23, 1889, at Berlin. He attended Berlin schools and was a graduate of Ripon College. He was employed by Wisconsin Telephone Co. at Manitowoc and Oshokosh and at the time of his retirement in 1954 was commercial staff superintendent of markets for the company at Appleton. He was a verteran of World War I and a member of Waverly Masonic Lodge 51 of Appleton. He married Elsie Schadeberg Walker.

Among survivors are his wife; a brother, Heber, of Berlin, and five nephews. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
