Marie Hilding, born May 23, 1924, passed away April 10th due to injuries sustained in an auto accident on April 8, 2014. At her bedside were her husband of 67 years, Russell, daughters Lynn Orta, Nancy Hilding, granddaughters Autumn Horrocks Trierweiler, Taneya Parks and Amelia Parks. Marie has two little great granddaughters Ocean Trierweiler and Christiana Isham, younger sister Muriel Reeves Bean, and was preceded in death by her older brother Merritt Reeves.
Marie met Russell, the love of her life on a blind date shortly after his return from WWII. They were married December 28, 1946. The many activities she enjoyed included being a founding member of the Sparrow Hospital Service Auxiliary, establishing a successful dried flower business at the Lansing City Market, playing with her Bridge group, traveling, volunteering at her church and doing many creative hobbies.
Although Marie outlived many of her close friends, she found many new ones in her church, with Red Hat buddies and in Bible study group. Her faith in God became even more deeply rooted at the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church where her Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 14, 2014 - 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Cindy Skutar officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Grand Ledge F.U.M.C., Eaton Siren Shelter, or City Rescue Mission will be greatly appreciated. The family has entrusted arrangements with the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
