Theodore was the son of John Lieuwen and Janna Berg. He married Ruth Cullinan on 27 September 1912 at Clarion, Iowa. They were the parents of Marion and Ione.


Jan 27, 1965 - Humboldt Republican - Theodore J. Lieuwen, 77, former barber and deputy sheriff, died at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge Monday. He had been in poor health about a month.

Funeral services for Mr. Lieuwen will be held at the Congregational Church Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p..m with Rev. Francis Burr officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery at Humboldt with the Lindhart Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr Lieuwen was born in Wright County and graduated from Belmond High School. He then attended the former Highlans Park college in Des Moines.

He married Ruth Cullinan at Clarion and lived in Belmond until moving to Humboldt in 1915. He was employed as a barber until becoming deputy sheriff under former Sheriff E.F. Bradley. After his retirement he worked as court bailiff.


Active in the Masonic Lodge, Mr. Lieuwen was a past master of the local lodge, past grand tyler of the Grand Lodge of Iowa and a Masonic district lecturer and instructor. He was also a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
