Lois R. Franklin, 80, of Grant Center, Michigan, passed away April 27, 2008, at Stonebridge Manor in Grand Rapids.
She was born August 19, 1927, in South Haven, the daughter of Twohy and Grace (Streeter) Hough, and graduated from South Haven High School in 1945. For several years after, Lois worked as a Michigan Bell Telephone operator.
On October 7, 1948, Lois married Glen "Bud" Franklin, and they moved to Grant Center in 1955, where they had lived since.
For over 30 years, Lois was active with 4-H, and was the area leader. She also started the roadside cleanup in Grant Township well before the state "adopt-a-highway" program was instituted. Lois served as a Grant Township Election Official, was a member of the Grant Center P.T.O., was a former president of the Grant Township Senior Club, and volunteered at the Mecosta Senior Center.
Lois was also very active with her church, the Grant Center United Methodist Church. She served on various church boards, was a former Sunday School Superintendent, and was a member of the Mother's Fellowship, the United Methodist Women, and the Quilt Club.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lois is fondly remembered for her lovingly-made quilts and her delicious "twisty" cookies. She cherished her flowers and birds, enjoyed watching the wildlife from her home, and loved to play hostess during deer season.
Her husband Bud preceded her in death in 1995.
Surviving were their children, Charles (Diane) Franklin of Big Rapids, Roberta Franklin of Big Rapids, Douglas (Sherry) of Reed City, Sally (Stanley) Grochowalski of Rockford, Susan (Larry) Capps of Grand Rapids, Bonnie Rose of Scottsville, KY; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Homer Hough of Niles; and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was also preceded in death by 3 sisters and a brother.
Funeral: Grant Center United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike Simon officiating.
Burial: South Grant Center Cemetery.
