Born to an ethnic Pashtun family; Dollha Anver Bey Jaffa Khan in Panian, Hazara District, Abbotabad Division of the Punjab Province of British India (now Panian, Haripur District, Khyber Paaktungua, Pakistan.) although he also claimed to have been born in Kabul, Afghanistan. Emigrating to the U.S. in 1916; Joeseph Joffrey, as he would Anglicize his name, became a successful restaurateur in Seattle, Wash. for over forty years. He first started out selling chili, and later opened a restaurant, the New Pine Street Tavern which he operated until his retirement in the 1950's. A resident of 1010 E. Lynn St., Seattle he died December 31, 1971, and was laid to rest Jan. 9, 1972 in the Afghan section of the Sacramento Memorial Lawn cemetery in Sacramento, Calif.
