Dorothy Mae Adams
(July 27, 1920 - April 15, 2014)
Dorothy Mae Adams 93, passed away April 15, 2014 while a resident at Madigan Estates in Houlton. She was born July 27, 1920 at Houlton, the daughter of Raymond and Iona (Gilbert) Wood.

Dorothy was educated in the Houlton school system graduating from Houlton High School in 1939. She then attended Presque Isle Normal School, earning a teaching certificate in 1943 and went on to complete a B.A. degree from Aroostook State Teachers College in 1968 before it became the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Dorothy then went to a 30 year career teaching the sixth grade at Bowdoin Street School in Houlton. She was a gifted musician playing trumpet in both the Houlton High School and Town bands and was also versatile on the piano. Dorothy married Claude Adams of Linneus on his return from WWII and they spent most of their 51 year married life residing at 9 Elm Street where their son David Robert Adams was born in 1953. She had several hobbies. She was an avid knitter, quilter and loved to travel in Maine and Canada to square dances as long as she and Claude were able. They also traveled extensively with Mexico, Hawaii and the United Kingdom being among their destinations. Dorothy was a life-long member of the Houlton Methodist Church and often demonstrated her cooking skills at church suppers.

Dorothy is survived by her brother Clair Wood and his wife Marian of Veazie; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Claude, her son David and her brother Robert.
