Sammie Lee Adams, 81, of Grants Pass died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Waterford at Three Fountains nursing home in Medford.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005.

Adams was born May 4, 1925, in Shreveport, La., to Pearl (Cavenah) and Vance Byars. On Sept. 4, 1944, in Shreveport, she married Henry "Hank" Adams, who died before her.

They were married for 45 years. After World War II, she and her husband made their home in Hawthorne, Calif., and she worked as a bookkeeper.

They moved to Rogue River in 1979, and to Grants Pass in 1980.

She volunteered as a Scout leader and Little League coordinator.

She also volunteered with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, assisting seniors with the preparation of their taxes and medical insurance forms for many years.

She was involved with fund-raising for the Grants Pass Kiwanis and assisted with the Christmas Basket Program.

Survivors include a son, Jim Adams of Medford; and three grandchildren.
