Norma Oliver Danekas, a 40 year resident of Ritzville passed away at her home Jan. 30, 1999. She was 85. She was born Dec. 6, 1913 at Walla Walla, where she went on to graduate from high school in 1931.

She later attended Whitman College, graduating in 1938. While there, she was vice president of the student body and was a member of the tennis team.

She later taught high school in Davenport for three years and here she met Raymond W. Danekas. They were married July 13, 1941 and the couple lived in Davenport for 20 years until moving to Ritzville in 1958.

Norma was a 49-year member and past president of the Ritzville PEO, a 63-year member of the Delta Gamma sorority, a past member of the Davenport OES and a Rainbow Girls advisor. She was also involved in the El Karnak Temple Daughters of the Nile in Spokane as well as serving as a supt. of the Oderssa County Public Schools from 1962 to 1965.

She was active on the Education Service Dist. Board #104 from 1965 to 1977. Norma enjoyed playing cards, spending time at their Twin Lakes summer home and being with her grandchildren.

She was preceed in death by her daughter, Susan Danekas Wellsandt in 1993, and a grandson, Jason D Wellsandt in 1992.
