John Raine Jr familiar known as "Jack" Raine who was brought to the Hinton Hospital from Rainelle, Greenbrier County WV over two weeks ago and underwent an operation for appendicitis, died at the hospital on Sunday about noon.
His condition has been serious from the beginning when he was stricken with appendicitis at his father's home at Rainelle about three weeks ago. He was brought to the hospital and there underwent an operation, but had developed blood poisoning and while he seemed to be doing fairly well for a few days, his condition later indicated that he was not doing so well and although he remained cheerful and conscious to the end, his physicians and relatives realized that there was but little hope for him and all members of the family came here to be with him, and were a his bedside when he passed away.
This bright young man was 17 years of age last month. He had been attending the Rainelle school and would have graduated next year. He was a favorite in the home and also among the young folks in h is home town, and will be sadly missed by so many of his friends where he was known.
He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs John Raine and four brothers and one sister, Miss Margaret. Two of his brothers, Lieut Burton D. and Richard O. Raine recently returned home from army service and with the other members of the family were with him when the end came.
Mr John Raine father of the deceased is president of the Meadow River Lumber Co and also the coal and land company, owning thousands of acres of coal and timber land in the Rainelle section. He is known by a number of people of this city and for the past ten years has been extensively engaged in the lumber business at Rainelle Greenbrier County and at Evanwood Randolph county, as well as having business interests elsewhere.
The remains were prepared for burial by the Meadows Undertaking Co and accompanied by the family taken to Rainelle on the noon train today for burial, which will be at that place on Tuesday.
The taking of this young man as he was entering into manhood comes to the family as a sad blow and in their sorrow they have the sympathy of their many friends here, and in their home town where they are so well known.
The funeral services will be conducted by Rev Sutton of Rainelle, assisted by Rev Wm Coleman of Phillipi.
J. H. Raine and daughter Miss Ida of Ironton Ohio also Misses Ruth and Sue Raine of that place arrived here this morning and left on the noon train for Rainelle to attend the funeral.
