WINDSOR, VT - Alan L. Johnson, 84, a longtime resident of Windsor passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 16, at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. He was born November 6, 1929 in Windsor the son of Ralph and Ruth (Bartlett) Johnson. He received his schooling in Windsor.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Windsor. Mr. Johnson was employed at Joy Manufacturing in Claremont for twenty nine years. He most recently worked at Levesque Plumbing and Heating in Windsor until his retirement. He was a former member of the VFW. He enjoyed being outdoors and hunting. He was fond of doing jigsaw puzzles and caring for his pets.

He married Elizabeth Thurston and they were later divorced. He married Lois Baker in 1979 and she passed away in 1982. He married Fay O'Brien in 1983 and she passed away in 2010. He was also predeceased by his parents and by one brother, Kenneth Johnson. Survivors include two sons, Peter Johnson and his wife, Brenda of Windsor, and Roderick Johnson and his wife, Stephanie of Windsor, two daughters, Penny Herschel and her husband, Michael of West Windsor, and Judith Kingsley and her husband, Richard of White River Jct., five grandchildren, Richard Herschel III, Kelly Herschel, Kayla Johnson, Hailey Johnson and Meranda Johnson, four great grandchildren, Christopher Price, Jr., Kacey Herschel, Wyatt Herschel and Nevaeh Herschel, two brothers, Ralph Johnson of West Windsor and Clifford Johnson of White River Jct., and several nieces and nephews.

At his request, a public graveside service will be held in the spring in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society at PO Box 702, Brownsville, VT 05037. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is entrusted with the arrangements.
