John S. "Jack" Benning, life-long resident of Streator and owner of the Schultz Hotel, died suddenly at 8:30 a.m. today at his apartment home, 201 N. Bloomington Street. Mr. Benning had been ailing with heart trouble since last November.

Funeral services are scheduled Friday at 9 a.m. from the Elias chapel and at 9:30 from Immaculate Conception church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

The son of Joseph and Christina (Mazzola) Benning, the deceased was born August 26, 1903 in Streator. He was united in marriage with Nora A. Hollenbeck on July 29, 1929.

Surviving with the widow are a daughter: Mary Margaret (Bert) Barickman of Urbana and a son: George Benning of Streator; five grandchildren; a sister: Grace Carbone of Granville; and four brothers: Bernard and Louis of Golden, Colorado; Baptiste of St. Louis, Missouri; and Joseph of Streator.

Mr. Benning was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Mary.

The deceased had operated the Schultz Hotel here for a number of years. He also served as a Republican committeeman in the third precinct. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Lodge, Streator Elks Club, and the Immaculate Conception Church.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday until the time of the services. The rosary will be said there at 8 o'clock Thursday evening.

Scores attended funeral services for Jack S. Benning, prominent hotel operator, held in the Elias Funeral Home at 9 a.m. Friday, and in the Immaculate Conception Church at 9:30 a.m.

Rev. Francis Cahill, pastor, Rev. Raymond Boyle, and Rev. Richard Kolczaski officiated at the Requiem Mass.

Pallbearers were: Vincent Trainor, Charles Teval, Fred J. Hart, Joseph Cannella, George Mazzola and John Thew.

Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, with graveside rites by Rev. James Farley and Rev. Cahill.

Relatives and friends attended from Ft. Madison, Ia.; Golden, Colo.; St. Louis, Mo.; Bloomington, Urbana, Granville, LaSalle, Ottawa, Peoria, Kankakee, Toluca, and the surrounding vicinity.
