Born at Abraham on May 19, 1940, he was the son of the late Arnold Adkins and Blanche Ann (Adkins) Meadows.
Mr. Adkins was a retired coal miner and had served in the Army National Guard. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Bill Bennett; a grandson, Anthony Lynn Bennett; and a stepbrother, Mark Adkins.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nora Bennett Adkins; sons, Denver Mathis and wife, Patsy, of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and Timothy Adkins and wife, Amy, of Grandview; daughters, Linda Derringer and husband, Larry, of Oak Hill, Darlena Cox and husband, Kenneth, of Cool Ridge and Connie Cutright and husband, Mike, of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Keith Adkins and wife, Libby, of Cool Ridge, Harold Adkins and wife, Bonnie, of New Mexico and Edsel Adkins and wife, Betty, of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Pearl Richmond and husband, John, of Daniels, Ruth Smith and husband, Larry, of Cool Ridge and Carol Sue Williams and husband, Ron, of Shady Spring; a stepsister, Grethal Lester of Helen; several nieces and nephews; and extended friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. John Wesley Richmond and the Rev. Frankie Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Plumley Cemetery, Plumley Mountain.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Gammons, Adam Martin, Jayson Bennett, Eric Bennett, T.J. Adkins and Brett Adkins.
