Alfred E. Labenz, 88, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., Jan. 4, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Francis T. Curran officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE. A Rosary will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament with a visitation from 3:00 p.m. until Rosary time.
Mr. Labenz was born July 30, 1917 at Humphrey, NE, the son of Edward and Grace (Hastrieter) Labenz. He received in education in Humphrey and on Oct. 10, 1943, married Mary Ternus at Cornlea, NE. He served in WWII and they moved to Grand Island in 1950. He was employed by the V.A. Hospital and retired in 1973.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the American Legion, and the VFW.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Mary of Grand Island, two sons: Patrick of Omaha, NE, Rich and wife Janet of Lincoln, NE, three daughters: Mary (Mrs. Tom) Miller of Grand Island, Barbara Lebenz of Grand Island, Jean (Mrs. Stan) Hoge of Woodridge, VA, three brothers: Nick and wife Frances of Newman Grove, NE, Gene and wife Eileen of Humphrey, NE, Vic and wife Alice of Humphrey, NE, two sisters: Germaine Brown of Grand Island, Marie Stodola (Mrs. LeRoy) of Fremont, NE, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Alois.
