Pvt. James Lamar – Company D, “Oglethorpe Infantry,” 1st (Ramsey’s) Georgia Infantry. Pvt. Lamar was from Richmond County, Ga. According to the 1860 Census of Richmond County, he was born in 1828, the son of George W. and Sarah W. Lamar. He was a carpenter. He enlisted March 18, 1861 at Richmond County, and died of disease on Nov. 19, 1861. He was 32 years old.
This Confederate Cemetery is located across the street from the Highland Medical Center on route 220 south. There is only one marked grave (stone placed there in the 1890's) The remaining graves are distinguished by the sunken ground for each grave and can only be seen when the field is mowed.
