Daniel Francis Roddy, 83, proprietor of Roddy's lime kilns, and widely known among road contractors, died last Friday afternoon at his home, "San Marino," near Emmitsburg, of pneumonia, after an illness of about a week.

For more than 40 years Mr. Roddy operated an extensive lime kiln and quarries on the "San Marino" property. Stone from these quarries was used throughout the northern section of Frederick county, Adams county, and to some extent other sections of Maryland in the construction of the first good roads in Maryland. He shipped large quantities of agricultural lime to Maryland farming communities and to sections in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Roddy was married on April 27, 1897, to Catherine, daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Markin) White, who survives him. He also is survived by a brother, Frank A. Roddy, of Owingsdale, and a sister, Mrs. Vincent Sebold, of Emmitsburg.

Funeral services were held this morning from St. Anthony's Catholic church, Emmitsburg. Interment in Mt. St. Mary's cemetery.
