LEWIS A. HRDINA

Lewis A. Hrdina, age 75, of 605 22nd St., Two Rivers, died Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 1999, at Two Rivers Community Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 8, 1999, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. William O'Brien. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Lewis was born May 25, 1923, in Two Rivers, son of the late Joseph C. and Clara F. Duerschmidt Hrdina. He attended St. Luke grade school in Two Rivers and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1942. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 with the 252nd Field Artillery Battalion in France and Germany. He was employed by the City of Two Rivers as a firefighter in 1948 and retired as a captain from that department in 1979 after serving 31 years. On February 23, 1949, he married the former Elaine D. Fricke at St. Luke Catholic Church. Lewis played football and basketball in high school and was a member of the Washinton High School 1941 State basketball championship team. After high school he played basketball and baseball on various teams, including the semi-pro Manitowoc Rockets, and also bowled for many years. Lewis was and avid golfer, up until the time of his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1957, VFW Post #1248, Two Rivers Senior Center, AARP Chapter 4363, and Retired Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Elaine, Two Rivers; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and Bill Richter, Two Rivers, Linda and John Scallon, Stevensville, Mich., Bonnie Raymakers, Two Rivers and special friend, Dean Haucke, Two Rivers; three grandchildren, Christopher Raymakers, Two Rivers, Kelly Scallon, Phillidelphia, Pa., Sean Scallon, Stevensville, Mich.; one brother and four sisters-in-law, George and Bernie Hrdina, Wausau, Marie Ponschock, Gladys Kiel, Grace Fricke, all of Manitowoc; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends also survive.

Lewis was also preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Gordon Ponschock, Donald Keil and Leo A. Fricke.

Friends may call at the Klein & Stangel Funeral Home Thursday, January 7, 1999, (TONIGHT) from 5-8 p.m.
