Vincent R. DeVitis (Jim), 74, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006, from complications following a stroke. Born in Akron, Ohio to Archangela and Francesco DeVitis, June 15, 1932, Vince was the second of two children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Catherine. A lifelong resident of Akron, Vince is survived by his sons, Richard (Debbie) and Don; daughters, Deborah (Richy) Acker, Darla (Ron) Turcotte, Dyna (Phil) Sparks; his brother, Angelo (Janet) DeVitis; and his second wife, Jean DeVitis.

His legacy is continued through grandchildren, Michael, Kelly, Carlos, Joshua, Jessica, Matthew, Deanna and Jared and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Bryan, Dallas, Matthew and Caleb. His special nieces and nephews who played an important part in his life, and lifelong friends, Billy (JoEllen) Burke and Nicole, join in remembering Uncle Vinny.

After retiring from a 35 year career as a car salesman, Vince worked at the family business, Devitis & Sons, until his passing. There and throughout Akron, his memory will be cherished by those who appreciated his friendliness, comedy and debonair personality.

Per his request, cremation has taken place. Friends will be received Friday, 3 to 7 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m. led by Father James Ragnoni, at Hennessy Funeral Home, 552 N. Main St., Akron. A special thanks to all the caring staff at Summa Critical Care, Rehab, and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Summa, City Hospital, 444 North Main St., P.O. Box 2090, Akron, OH 44398-6153.
