From a written account by daughter-in-law Ella Rasmussen, spelling & punctuation as is:

Hans Peter Rasmussen was born in Sollerup Gaard Fyn Denmark, a/k/a Berkley, part of Aereskov Castle. Hans was one of eight children and the son of Jorgen Rasmussen. Jorgen was a bondsman (farmer).

The eight children of Jorgen Rasmussen were:
1. Wilhom, married Kristine Hojrup Fyn (their children: Paul, Leo, Thorkilde, Rosa, Nanna, Orla, Axel, Preden, Kjeld);
2. Louise (twin), married Jens Peter Petersen Odeme Fyn (their children: Frederick, Christian, Rudolf);
3. Nicoline (twin of Louise), married Jens Jorgen Hansen Haagerup Fyn (their children: Carl, Anne, Anton, Sigurd);
4. Theodore was a farmer and single;
5. Caraline "Lea" married Erik Gross Middlefast Fyn, (their children: Erik, Vibeka, Ruth);
6. Jonchim was and art painter and single;
7. Rudboling Langlelinie (no further info);
8. Hans Peter, contractor and carpenter.

Hans Peter Rasmussen and Nickoline Hansen left Denmark together in 1890 for Atlantic, Iowa. In Atlantic, Hans married Nickoline on 2 August 1890.

Hans and Nickoline were the parents of 9 children, all born in Atlantic. The first two died as infants. The other 7 are:
1. Agnes, b. 17 July 1894, d. 21 May 1912;
2. Carl Nicholas, b. 1 Aug 1896, d. 17 Nov 1939;
3. Noble Adolph, b. 9 Aug 1898, d.1 Apr 1987 Santa Cruz, CA;
4. Anna, b. 5 Oct 1900;
5. Ted, b. 7 Jan 1903, d. 14 Feb 1989;
6. Hans, b. 8 Aug 1905, d. 16 Feb 1976;
7. Ernest b. 31 October 1909.

Hans Peter was very ambitious as a contractor and a factory owner. He built Goodale and Rasmussen Planing Mill on 3rd & Walnut in Atlantic, Iowa. They built many of the homes in Atlantic and Elk Horn, Iowa, most of those were Victorian in style with elaborate trimmings ("gingerbread") made in the planing mill.

Then, a fire burned the planing mill to the ground and left the family in debt. So they had to begin another lumber yard/factory. Hans Peter was working on the Westphalen Meat Market building when a large beam was accidentally dropped by carpenters, hitting Hans on the neck and shoulders, leaving him paralyzed on his left side. Shortly afterward, he went to Chicago for surgery to relieve the trouble and prolong his life. About 9 years after the accident, he was sent by the Atlantic Elks Club to the Elks Hospital in Bedford (town), Bedford City (County), Virginia. He lived there for about a year before his death.

On 21 May 1912, their daughter Agnes died at age 18. She was buried beside the two infants in the Atlantic Cemetery. Hans passed away 14 July 1912 and his body was shipped home from Virginia. He was buried on 17 July 1912, in the cemetery lot with his two infants and daughter Agnes.
