Donald attended the University of Nebraska, was a member of Alpha Tau Omega and Crossings Community Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. His wife Phyllis A. Coupens preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Janis Coupens; sons and daughter-in-laws, Jeff and Suzanne Coupens, Steve and Patty Coupens; grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Zach, Dillon, Katie, Lindsey, Jacob and Mackenzie.
