Eric, a Brigham Young grad was in a paragliding accident in Utah on Sunday. Apparently his parachute collapsed.
a California native who lived in Salt Lake City, UT. According to Unified Fire Authority, Hill's parachute collapsed when he was between 15 to 20 feet in the air near Point of the Mountain in Draper, UT, on Sunday afternoon, causing him to crash into the mountainside.
His sister, Karen Tracy, wrote on Facebook that he had died.
"Eric shared his final journey with us this morning as all his immediate family were able to be at his side when he passed away. Thank you to all of your love and support and prayers and fasting," Karen Tracey wrote. "It was amazing to be with so many of his friends and family yesterday in the hospital who came to express their love for Eric."
Eric was a contestant on the Bachelorette Televison show,
Part of his parachute collapsed while he was paragliding in Utah on Sunday. A rescue team was called to the scene, and he was transported by helicopter to a local hospital, where he remained in a medically induced coma until Wednesday. The accident occurred post-Bachelorette; he had apparently already been eliminated from the show.
The producers of The Bachelor franchise issued a statement through Warner Bros.' Robert Pietranton, saying:
We are deeply saddened to hear about the tragic passing of our friend, Eric Hill. Eric inspired us every day with his passion, his courage and his adventurous spirit, and for that we are very thankful. On behalf of our cast, crew and producers, we send our love, our thoughts and our prayers to Eric's family during this difficult time."
Before joining The Bachelorette, Hill had been on a quest to visit every United Nations-recognized country in the world in just 1,200 days. He had been documenting his journey on his website, GO With Eric: The Global Odyssey, and had visited more than 50 countries.
