He was born March 9, 1937, on the Lancaster place in Hickman County, TN. His early life was hard. His family moved around for many years before they settled on several acres which he and Carles Baker (his brother) purchased in the 1950's. He went to Coble School, Coble, TN, for the first 9 grades of school. He went to Hickman County High School in Centerville, TN, from which he graduated in 1958. He loved to farm, but went to work at a couple of places in his life. He worked at Genesco in Centerville, TN, during the 1960's and early to mid-1970's. In 1974 or 5 he went to work for Turney Center Prison in Only, TN. He loved Hickman County, and was very proud to be from there. He believed in promoting the area that he loved and helped promote the annual Fair on the Square in Centerville, TN during the 1990's. He also loved to dance. He passed away from injuries sustained in a farming accident on May 29, 1998, on his farm.
