"When Mary Eliza FOSSETT (1861-1895) was twenty-four she was invited by Rockie Yates, the wife of Capt. John Yates of Round Pond, to accompany them on a voyage to South Africa. Orlando Chester SAWYER of Jonesport, Maine (1862-1929) was first mate on that ship. Mary Eliza and he fell in love on that trip and were eventually married. [Mary and Orlando were married February 25, 1886, prior to Rockie Yates' death, January 1, 1887.] Arthur Sawyer was born in 1888, and his sister, Ethel, was born in 1890." ~ Verna Yates Sawyer as retold by Stanley Sawyer, 2014
